Jack Easter's name is spread about Ballina reflecting his impact & loyalty to the town. John Stuart Easter, was his actual name. he was a Dreadnaught boy remembered by all of the local old-timers. Dreadnaught boy's were English boys who were sent to Australia after WW11. They were given about 6 months training at a Government Experimental Farm & were then allocated to farmers in need of labour.
Jack delivered cream to the Ballina Factory & eventually owned the cream run & an extensive carrying business, as well as fuel depot & petrol agency. I recall him delivering goods to my family farm.
Jack was big, strong & intelligent. He was a forceful advocate for Ballina. He became involved in Local Government & was the Mayor of Ballina from 1948 to 1952, became a Parliamentary Representative & was Mayor again from 1973 to 1974.
Jack died unexpectedly in 1978.
