James Ellis married Elizabeth Young in 1865. James, Elizabeth & family moved to German Creek (Empire Vale) in 1891. They took up land on which to grow sugar cane. James & Elizabeth had 10 children: William (1866), James L. (1870), Arthur E. (1871), Josiah (1873), Frederick (1876 - 1968), Ada Jane (1877), Albert Thomas [Thomas] (1880), Eliza Ellen (1882), Walter J. (1884) & Lillian E. (1889). All of the boys took up cane farming as they grew up.

William married Maria Beswick (parents Thomas & Mary A.) in 1892. Their children were: Ernest A (1896), Lester W. (1900) & Edith G. (1902). Maria died in 1936, followed by William in 1940. Lester & Edie didn't marry. Ernie married Olive Newman & had one daughter, Elwin. Elwin married Jack Tully

Arthur married Elizabeth Mary Burns (from Grafton) at German Creek in 1895. Their children were: Elsie (1897), Mary Myra (1898), Amy E. (1900), Constance (1902), James A (1905), Arthur, Dorrie, Laura & Daisy. Elsie married Mr Withers on his return from the war. Mary married Charlie Kiel, the registrar of the experimental farm at Goonellabah, Amy married Jim Felsch. Connie married Charlie Wilson & lived at Ballina. James married Lorna Adams & lived at Keith Hall. Arthur married Ella Stone & lived in Sydney. Dorrie married Ella's brother Hec Stone. Laura married Walter Tully. Daisey became Mrs Bodey of Murwillumbah.

Josiah married Sarah Dickson in 1897. Their children included: Lenith (1898), ALbert E (1900), Henry F (1902), Ivy A (1903) & Ellen M (1905).

Frederick married May Davis in 1902, Tatham NSW. May died 1955. They had 4 Children:
Twins Stanley and Lesley in 1903-1983 & 1973 in Ballina we think
Vida 1906 - 1996 Ballina - Vida married James Douglas Graham (the son of James Irvine Graham and Florence Mercy nee ?) James Douglas Grahm became the first principle at Macksville school.
Alma who died as a child I am told. I have no information on Alma.

Ada Jane Ellis married Albert Duncan Robins of German Creek in 1900. They initially lived on a rented property at Tregeagle. Just prior to World War 1 Ada & Albert returned to Empire Vale where tehy bought a property & built a house. Albert & Ada had 7 children, including: Gladys M, Ettie V, Cyril R, Ivy, Harold (Terry), Mervyn. One child died at birth & Harold (Terry) was accidentally killed at age 24. Gladys did not marry & lived with Ada & Albert. Ettie married Harold (Jack) Biggs & moved to Pimlico. Ivy married George Young & moved to Ballina. Cyril married Jessie Leeson & settled at Empire Vale. Mervyn married Kathleen Cumiskey of South Ballina & purchased a property at Keith Hall. Gladys died at age 66 & Mervyn purchased the Empire Vale property, including the Race Track Ada Jane lived at her home until 2 weeks before her 102 birthday.

Albert Thomas [Thomas] married Mary F. Attewell of German Creek in 11903. Their children included Lloyd (1904).

Eliza Ellen [Elizabeth] married Albert Attewell & later moved to North Queensland. Their children included Edna C (1904).

Walter J. Ellis married Reta Jane Blanch at Ballina in 1916. They resided on the property 'Palm Dale' until their retirement in 1954, when they moved to Lismore. They had 4 children: Jane (1916 -1916), Lola (1923), Noel (1928) & Walter (1931). Lola married Len McMullen i 1949. Walter married Vivienne Law & took up residence at 'Palm Dale' for some time after his parents' retirement.

Lilly married Les Smith & moved to Doroughby & then Sydney.
